Michelle started playing bass back in the 90's. Michelle credits her family for getting her into playing the bass. Her family would have Saturday night jams and would force her at gun point (lol) to pick up the bass and follow along. After just a little time Michelle found that she had a natural talent for the bass.
In 2001 Michelle joined her first professional band called Hootin Holler. The band was based in Morgan County, Ky and they would perform at local venues. Michelle was with them until 2003.
In 2003 The Hazel Holler girls were formed. The band consist of Michelle Wallace on bass and vocals, Stacy York Issac, on guitar and vocals, Jackie Thacker on Banjo and vocals and Mary Rachael Nalley on Fiddle.
On a more personal note, Michelle makes her home in Elliott County, Kentucky. Michelle is a Morehead State University graduate. She is the host of Bluegrass Sunday, which can be heard from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. On 90.3 FM locally, or online at www.msuradio.com when Michelle isnt traveling with the Hazle Holler Girls or doing her radio show, you can find her at her own business, Mama Hazel's Bakery, in Grayson, Ky . Aside from being known for her bass playing and singing with the Hazel Holler girls, she is also becoming famous for her Mama Hazel's Salsa. So if you go out and catch a show with these girls, chances are you will be able to purchase a jar or two of her salsa since she usually has it with her.
